The 9 Zinnia Varieties I’m Growing This Year

This is the first year for our flower farm at Castorfolk, but this is not not the first time I’ve grown zinnias! I grew zinnias back in 2021 when I was trialing growing flowers for our early June wedding in 2022.  I started the seeds under lights in our tiny living room and then after the first frost carefully transplanted them in the front yard of our duplex.  It ended up being super successful, except for the fact that even though I started the seeds indoors, they did not bloom until well after our wedding date.  However, they didn’t go to waste!  I ended up drying them and making a back drop for our dessert table.

I grew 3 varieties of zinnias that year, and this year I am upping it to 9 different varieties. After scrolling through the Johnny’s catalog I fell in love with all of the zinnias they offer. I did a mix of the Queeny series, Benary’s Giants, Oklahoma series and Zinderella. I went with a peachy & pink color palette. I have to say I am most excited for the Zinderlla Peach and Ballerina zinnias! I think these are going to be so special in summer bouquets.

From left to right, top to bottom: Queeny formula mix, Queeny Red Lime, Queeny Lime Orange, Ballerina, Zinderella Peach, Agave, Benary’s Giant Salmon Rose, Oklahoma Salmon and Benary’s Giant White

Zinnias will be the focal point of our arrangements and I can’t wait to get these seeds into the ground. I can see myself growing these varieties year after year!
